Delhi: There will be a seven-day waiting period to qualify for mobile number porting after a SIM swap or exchange, telecom regulator Trai has revealed. This new rule will come into effect from July 1.
TRAI has taken these measures to prevent fraud using mobile phone numbers. Earlier the waiting time in case of seam swap was 10 days, but in the latest amendment, it has been reduced to seven days. Henceforth, the Unique Porting Code (UPC) has been assigned to change the number within seven days.
While many companies opined that the waiting time of 10 days after a SIM swap is too long, some other companies said that the waiting time of 10 days is causing problems for the subscribers. They said that 2-4 days is enough time.
